Manmade tiles

Ceramic tiles are made from clay that is fired and glazed with a colour or pattern to the face of the tile.

Porcelains are made from ceramic dust that has been pressed and fired at high temperatures. Porcelain is dense, impervious to moisture and the colour goes all the way through the tile

Terracotta tiles are handmade from natural clay. They can be left unglazed and fired to retain the colours of the clay produced as a coarse texture. Glazes can be applied before firing. Terracotta is a natural form that will require a seal.

Mosaic tiles are made up of stone, glass, ceramic or porcelain pieces mounted onto sheets of netting and can be laid like tiles to form a continuous pattern.

Terrazzo is made by setting marble stone shell or quartz into concrete and grinding it to achieve a rough or highly polished finish. It is very hard-wearing and installed into many commercial projects.
